To Spend or Not to Spend: Oscar Edition

When you think of the Academy awards red carpet, you think multi million dollar jewelry, diamonds galore, and crazy expensive gowns. What you might not think of is the reasonable retailer and one of my favorites… H&M. Well, Helen Hunt sure did! That’s right, the actress chose the retailer for her red carpet moment and believe it or not, looked astonishingly similar to the look Reese Witherspoon chose, by Louis Vuitton. Quite the price point difference right?! So, what do you think? To spend or not to spend when it comes to the red carpet?

The Shape of My Heart

Yesterday’s weather here was beyond amazing. 72 degrees in February? I will take it! I am so not ready to pull my scarves and boots out again this weekend for the incoming cold weather. Instead, I want to focus on all the amazing BRIGHT colors and fabulously fun shapes that are popping up everywhere. There’s no better way to usher in spring than with happy colors…besides painting those bright colors onto a super funky and out of the box-shaped dress. A dress with a crazy shape or subtle embellishment, is just the ticket to curing your winter blues.

And guess what’s coming up?! The Academy Awards! The red carpet fashion to end all red carpet fashion. Get excited!!!

Styles of the MTV Movie Awards

Admittedly…. I did not watch the MTV Movie Awards. There’s really not much you can’t just catch at the water cooler, or the next day. And, you just saved yourself roughly 7 1/2 hours. I do however love love love the young fresh fashions that are born on this particular red carpet. New trends to try, and so little time! {and oh yeah, and so little of this: $} Here are my favorites…

I adore Blake’s use of color in this ensemble by Michael Kors:

Emma Watson looks so sassy and elegant in Marchesa:

Reese is totally rocking Zac Posen:

Maybe it’s the Disney girl in me but i l-o-v-e Selena Gomez’s Giambattista Valli outfit. So summery and oh so adorable!

Brooklyn Decker totally played the part in this gold No. 21 mini dress

Forever a fan of the onesie, I think Jessica Szohr looked precious in Alice + Oilivia

From the Ballroom to Real Life

Maybe it’s the dancer in me, but I’ve always been a huge advocate of taking the style of a dance outfit and transposing it to everyday wear. Now, I’m not talking leg warmers and unitards….but rather taking inspiration from fabulous costumes, or the sleek simplicity of the dancer ‘look’. Now obviously you can’t just wear a dance costume to work, or an event…I’m saying that you need to use these creative pieces as ‘idea points’.

Take my favorite costume from Lacey Schwimmer, for instance,  on an episode of last season’s Dancing with the Stars.

Absolutely adorable, but seeing as I am neither A.} a ballroom dancer, or B.} a character in a living game of Candy Land {as completely amazing as that would be}, I’d have to look in a different direction if I wished to sport the same look. So when I saw a picture of Reese Witherspoon in this Jason Wu dress at a Water for Elephants premier, it was the perfect example! Love the black and white flower pattern, and the skirt is equally as fun and full of personality, yet totally appropriate to wear anywhere!

Red Carpet Favorites: The Academy Awards!

It’s finally here! The biggest red carpet night of the year…the Oscars! All red carpets lead to this one. It’s the night of ultimate dress up! This is my Super Bowl. I made Josh and I a fancy dinner…dessert….and settled in for the show. I loved watching talent get recognized, and enjoyed discovering films I still need to see. More importantly…here are my favorite’s in Hollywood’s biggest black tie event.

My jaw literally dropped when Reese graced the red carpet in this Armani Prive’ gown, Neil Lane jewels, and fabulous updo.

I’m not a huge fan of the shape of the gown, but I believe if you are nominated for an Oscar, it’s a safe fashion ‘win’ to wear all sparkle. Amy Adams rocked this L’Wren Scott purple number.

Hilary Swank knows how to walk a red carpet Oscar style. This feathered Gucci gown, complete with crystals, is just beyond.

Surprisingly enough, I loved Sharon Stone. Sort of “Elvira” chic, but oh so gorgeous with all the feathers atop the shoulder of this Christian Dior piece.

I can’t get enough of this ballet number by Lily et Cie 1950 Charles James Couture on Marisa Tomei

I love when an actress thinks outside the box. Cate Blanchett certainly did when she chose this amazingly detailed Givenchy Haute Couture gown

Another lady who knows how to dress for this red carpet of red carpets… Sandra Bullock in this fabulous red Vera Wang

Hailee Steinfeld was adorable and so age appropriate in this sweet, Marchesa tea length dress

I wish Mandy Moore had done something a little different with her hair and makeup to lend more color to this ensemble, but I adore the design of this Monique Lhuillier dress and the fit is simply gorgeous.

And last but certainly not least was Jennifer Lawrence in this form fitting Calvin Klein dress. Simple, understated, yet incredibly gorgeous.
